Meister Eckhart The Language of Heaven
There was something about the above video of Meister Eckhart's words, by Samaneri Jayasara, that feels to be a milestone in my life. And I have come across several major junctures in my 7 decades on this planet. But I consider the words from this link as being one of them, for I don't think I have ever felt quite so inspired to begin to more seriously meditate and do yoga, and maybe tidy up myself more in the process (aka does God only allow clean lovers in Her bed)? I don't think so, but it might help.
I had never heard of the Wisdom of the Masters channel, and came across this link in cruising the web one day. It might get interrupted with some commercial popping in. If so sorry about that. But hang in there, and ‘skip' whenever you want.
And the first few scholarly words of Meister Eckhart, you will see on this link, I presented as two distinct lines, and then expounded on them into the verse-poem you can now see here, below. And I have worked with Meister Eckhart before. I have a whole chapter on him in my Penguin anthology: Love Poems from God, that is now some 20 years in print and considered part of the spiritual literary landscape around the world.
But so much on this video-link seemed wonderfully new to me, like true Revelations; though some of the words on this recording reminded me of some things my own teacher had talked about at times on my early morning walks with him in India. Somehow they came even more alive listening to this video. Guess it was just time for the seed (me) to crack more open ... and see more of the sun inside, we all carry.
I think this is a very special service Samaneri offers through her — Wisdom of the Masters channel, and her voice and cadence seem perfect for these presentations. And I was so glad to see her reading some of my Hafiz poems, though on the one titled: Love's Victory... the attribution got all mixed up.
This is now one of my favorite Meister Eckhart poems I feel very honored to have worked on, and hopefully added something to. And for any ever wanting to get the most you can from a poem, I would suggest reading it slowly and out loud. There are sunrises all over the place, the more we can see, and in many ways the slower (and more consciously) we move.
The Language of Heaven
There is a huge silence inside each of us that beckons us
into itself.
And the recovery of our own silence can begin to teach
us the language of heaven.
And what is the language of heaven on earth? It can of
course be— all kinds of beautiful and helpful acts to
ourselves and others.
Like putting a brush against a canvas, that can make your
eye so present, it becomes glad.
Like playing some notes from some instruments, that
unknown to your ken— may get some angels feet tapping,
which they love.
Or the singing, the singing. And the dancing that truly
anoints this earth, and cause it to say—thank you, dear.
The language of heaven on earth ... can be feeding the
birds when the snow has covered all their food,
or listening with your soul when any creature may
speak to you, or the mountains have something to say.
The language of heaven is compassion to yourself, and
having fun, knowing some ecstatic pleasures;
it lifts a wing in our need to taste the sky. It lifts a heart
and helps us realize the purest sound—is laughter.
—Meister Eckhart
(The first two sentences above are understood to be scholarly translations of Meister Eckhart, the rest is my expounding, even adding in a little Hafiz.
