Time For A Song

Subject: Watch "Emmylou Harris—“If I Needed You live" on YouTube. https://youtube.com/watch?v=8a3jr-Xn1GM&feature=share

Yeah, seems Time For A Song. And I think so that we don’t forget that essential fact in our lives ... we should all have some kind of an electric collar attached to our ankles or elbows—and some great A.I. robot or cosmic brain gives us a big shock if we don't belt out a tune (and maybe even start dancing) at least once every 48 hours. Well, maybe we could cut you a little slack if you ever voted Republican and are still recovering, and make that once every 72 hours.

And I like this song by Townes Van Zandt a lot, that Emma helped to make famous. And I got a little Hafiz and Rumi story connected to it. Seems I am just Rumi and Hafiz crazy (I am so lucky) and can connect most anything to them.

That short story is:

Once, during a poetry reading, during some Q & A, I was asked if I could explain the Rumi and Hafiz phenomena that was going on in the Western and English-speaking countries. In response, I started to sing some lines from this song. Then I said:

“This really explains it: we needed them (Rumi and Hafiz) and they swam the seas of time to ease our pain, to expand our understanding, and open our arms more with compassion.”

And, if that song seems too country-western for ya, maybe try this one that says in part:

We are off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz. Because, because, because, because, because.... because of all the wonderful things he does!

And maybe start skipping ... and laughing.

And indeed, we are off to see the Wizard: a Buddha, a Jesus, a Yoda. And hold hands with Her or another heart, the best we can. Because, because .. of all the wonderful things— that can do! Like loooooove— and maybe some “primal screams” of happiness.

And Buddha & Mother Mary On A Harley* can kick your ass into the sky. And the golden bird you really are can then perch and sing to us from the moon.

the moon's light

    plants seeds in a field

       where mountains grow

Bet Matsuo Basho could dig that one! As he became such a lasting, giving mountain.

Or getting a little barroom again, another aka could be: the beauty in nature is one of our greatest teachers, until you meet a real—so fully human and divine woman or man ... with an Awareness that could have knocked Carl Jung on his butt. And Carl could have soooo applauded, and been so glad.

OOOO, there seems sooooo much I can say! From having spent so much time with a real teacher! And now, on occasion, hanging out in the sky!

*Buddha & Mother Mary On A Harley: Yeah, just seems there is a no-holds-barred realm to all of this. The full title of a serious idea for a comic book series I had, and still might crank out someday was:

The Sweet Adventures Of Buddha & Mother Mary On A Harley ... Saving The World Just In The Nick Of Time.

And indeed: that is what Hafiz and Rumi are trying to do. And they do give us a big, big kiss ...

Cause we needed them, and they swam the seas of centuries— to help unfurl our wings!
